Water Damage FAQ

Common questions about water damage in Coeur d’Alene and Kootenai County. For emergencies, call (208) 254-2053 , the phone line is answered 24/7.

How long does water damage drying take in Coeur d’Alene?

Drying time depends on what got wet, how long the water sat, and the temperature and humidity in your home. A short leak on hard flooring often dries faster than wet drywall, insulation, carpet pad, or a crawlspace. We map moisture with meters and watch the readings as equipment runs. We don’t promise a set number of drying days.

Will my homeowners insurance cover sudden water damage?

Sudden and accidental losses, for example, a burst pipe, are often treated differently from gradual seepage or long-term neglect, but every policy is different. ACOR does not decide coverage and does not guarantee that your claim will be approved or paid. Review your policy, open a claim with your carrier when you are ready, and we will document the loss so their staff adjuster can evaluate it.

Who should I call first: ACOR or my insurance company?

If water is still flowing, keep yourself safe first. Shut off the water if you can do that safely, then call for emergency help. Contact your insurance company to open a claim when you are ready. You can also call ACOR at (208) 254-2053 anytime on the emergency phone line. We are licensed contractors with independent adjusters on staff to help with documentation and carrier coordination. We are not public adjusters, and we do not negotiate your claim.

What should I do before a restoration crew arrives?

If it is safe to do so: stop the water source, move undamaged valuables out of wet areas, avoid walking through contaminated water, and avoid running heating or cooling through wet cavities if that could spread moisture or contaminants. Take clear photos for your records. Hold off on major demolition until the scope of work is clear.

Can water damage lead to mold?

Yes. If materials stay wet or drying is delayed, mold can grow on building materials. If mold is already visible or you suspect it, that may need a separate mold remediation scope after or alongside drying. We will explain what we see in your home. We will not invent timelines or guarantee that mold will never appear. See our Mold Remediation FAQ.

What’s the difference between office hours and the emergency phone?

Our office is open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, and closed on holidays, for scheduling and non-emergency questions. The same number, (208) 254-2053, is our emergency phone line and is available 24/7 when water is actively damaging your home.
